What is the American Diabetes Diet?

Once a person has been diagnosed with diabetes, they now have to live with this disease for the rest of their lives. This sounds pretty bleak for most people and very depressing at the same time. For people it will mean a radical change from their current lifestyle. Especially when comes to the foods they love the most. One of the best ways to control diabetes

By far, one of the best ways to fight diabetes is through diet. In reality, this can be a blessing in disguise for many people. Diabetes has force people to limit their intake of sugar based foods to a more higher fiber and protein based diet. Lots of fruits and vegetables are encouraged. In fact, some of the non-vegetarians are encouraged to become a vegetarian.

A person with diabetes will have to become more disciplined and focused in terms of diet and exercise as well as eating healthier foods. In reality, this is something that everyone should be doing anyways, so it may not be such a bad thing.

So just what is an American diabetes diet?

Just as the phrase implies, the American diabetes diet is actually a diet that is typically geared for Americans. It is well known that Americans enjoy consuming large amounts of fatty foods and consume a high amount of sugary snacks such as candy and chocolate among others. The American diabetes diet takes into account the preferences of people and tries to find middle ground.

It is well known that Americans are well feed but under nourished. The intake of dangerous foods should be regulated on a constant basis. The American diabetes diet is a diet that indicates how much is just right, even taking into account fat, meat and sugary snacks. Being diabetic or pre-diabetic doesn’t mean you can’t eat what you want anymore, just in moderation.

Always bear in mind that the body is not equipped to handle “excessive” intake of foods. So it is really up to us to monitor our own diet. As long as we don’t over indulge in a particular food, out bodies should be able to stay healthy.
